Jessie Turner (b. San Diego, 1995) is a textile and collage artist based in San Francisco (find her on insta here). She explores themes of the natural environment, connection, and mysticism in her work. She has her first solo exhibition at The Mill in November, and will be part of a fiber arts group show at Pallas this July. I am also lucky enough to work with her here at Plunge!!
These sweet little bags are made from 100% cotton and dyed by hand. They were crocheted to mimic the familiar "thank you" bag shape & size, and Jessie used the filet crochet technique (appropriately) to create the fish bone design. Each bag will vary in color and should be hand washed in cold water.

“As a long time knitter, I first came to filet crochet in my little knitting/crochet group that meets every so often, and was inspired by the variable yet structured aspect of the technique. You can't go crazy with a design without making the overall result huge. In order to make something fit within the size you are hoping for, you have to scale down and simplify. It's fun to play around with creating a design with the least squares possible. I mean, you can also go crazy and make something huge... just maybe not a bag.
As far as the design goes, the dead fish just made sense! The mesh-like quality of filet crochet is perfect for shaking out sand and holding wet towels. And it's Plunge blue, of course.” ~ Jessie
“My favorite place to swim currently is Patterson Point near Guerneville. I do miss living in Seattle and swimming in Lake Washington though... nothing like a central body of water.” ~ Jessie
This is a very special limited edition of just five bags, and for now they will ONLY be available in person at our new bagel shop… we couldn’t resist ~
We’ve spent six months building out a sourdough bagel shop in San Francisco! Obvious disclaimer: I (Jessica) am not a baker whatsoever!!! But thankfully my partner Noah happens to be an expert sourdough/bagel-er, and we have combined forces to bring you an artsy bagel experience in Noe Valley ;)

Bones Bagels will offer naturally leavened sourdough bagels made with organic grains, bialys, bagel dogs, delicious cream cheeses (+ vegan options!), local produce, sweet treats, and more Fun Stuff (this is where Plunge comes in).
We are starting with a small sprinkling of familiar Plunge home-good items in a designated corner of the shop, including Jessie’s fish bone bags, and will add on as we go.
It has felt amazing to move Noah’s at-home delivery service bakery to an official brick and mortar establishment and bring the vision to life! And we just got a write up in the SF Chronicle (note: Noah milled flour on a stationary bike but delivered by car)! Our staff is so cool, the bagels are soooo good, the art will continue to be exciting, and we are thrilled that our baby will get to grow up here :)
